Things You Should Know About Blephroplasty Or Eyelid Surgery?

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BLEPHROPLASTY OR EYELID SURGERY

As the skin ages, sagging of the eyelids may occur around the eyes. In such a case, eyelid surgery may be considered to achieve a new/young appearance.

In the late 30s or early 40s, the eyelids lose their elasticity. As a result, the eyelids begin to stretch and you are faced with a skin crease that hangs down from the edges of the upper eyelids. When you encounter such a scene (Blepharoplasty), you can apply for Eyelid Surgery.

What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

Blepharoplasty eye surgery is the name given to the process of removing excess skin, muscle or fat tissues from the eyelids. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be applied for aesthetic appearance as well as for visual health. In some cases, the sagging of the eyelid may cause drooping enough to restrict vision. In this case, blepharoplasty is the most effective method to prevent sagging and increase the field of view.

Candidates Suitable for Eyelid Surgery

Candidates who want to have eyelid surgery should be in good physical health and should not have a chronic disease that would prevent the surgery. Especially people with dry eye syndrome and diseases that increase surgical risk factors such as thyroid and diabetes should consult their doctor and evaluate complications that may occur during and after surgery. Those aged 35 and over are suitable for surgery. However, even if you are younger, if you have sagging and drooping eyelids, you can have the surgery earlier.

Eyelid Surgery Application

Upper eyelid aesthetic surgery is performed with local anesthesia. The operation time for 2 eyelids is approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour. Bruising and edema are seen in the first few days after the surgery. Edema on the lids goes away within a week. Bruising may continue. The stitches placed on the eyelid are removed at the end of a week.

Lower eyelid plastic surgery is the removal of bagging on the lower eyelid. It is performed by cutting through the lower lid or by making a skin incision from the bottom of the eyelashes. In case of a skin incision, the stitches are removed one week later. Likewise, the edema goes away after a week, but it takes time for the bruises to heal.

After Eyelid Surgery

Recovery time for eyelid plastic surgery varies according to the patient. The recovery period will be accelerated in patients who pay attention to the operated area and provide the necessary care and hygiene. After the surgery, vision may be blurry at first, because of the ointment used to prevent dryness. Ice packs are applied to the area 24-48 hours after the surgery. Things to avoid after surgery for a quick recovery; strenuous activities, eye makeup and exercises. A light-paced walk can be used for movement.
